The Sydney Rudolf Steiner College is pleased to invite expressions of interest for a developing course for Steiner Education at Home.

This self-paced, modular course is ideal for parents, carers, and educators, new or experienced, in providing education at home. Carefully curated to provide support and inspiration in creating a developmentally aligned approach, rooted in the principles of Steiner/Waldorf education.

From the Early years through to the primary years, participants will explore practical, artistic and philosophically enriching modules that aim to bring Steiner education to life in your own home.

Course Overview

The course will be self-paced, allowing participants to watch and complete each module in their own time. The course will comprise of six modules, with up to four lectures in each module.

 

Module 1: Foundations of Steiner/Waldorf Education

Module 1 provides the essential grounding in the philosophy, values and core principles to guide participants in understanding the ‘why’ behind Steiner education.

 

Module 2: Understanding Child Development (Birth to 14)

Module 2 explores the 7-year phases of child development as outlined by Rudolf Steiner.

 

Module 3: Planning and Delivering a Main Lesson

Module 3 provides a practical overview to guide participants on how to plan and deliver main lesson blocks. The module includes understanding the main lesson structure, subject rotation, yearly and seasonal planning, the three-day lesson rhythm, as well as storytelling and the use of archetypes.

 

Module 4: Establishing Healthy Habits

Module 4 empowers participants in creating harmony, rhythm, and wellbeing at home, including how to create rhythms that nourish family life, and connection-based discipline.

 

Module 5: Practical Teaching Methods

Module 5 equips participants with adaptable, day-to-day tools and practices, including handwork, movement, nature-based learning, and flexible curriculum approaches.

 

Module 6: Building Your Homeschooling Community

Module 6 aims to encourage connection and ongoing engagement, such as local area meetups, festivals to help provide the sense of community for children who are schooled at home, continuing education for parents and carers, as well as a Q&A roundtable.

 

 

Additional resources such as downloadable planning templates, sample lesson block plans, and recommended reading lists will be provided.
