Steiner Education at Home

A Modular Course for Parents and Tutors

This self-paced, modular course is designed for parents, carers, and educators—whether new to home education or seeking to deepen their practice. It offers thoughtful guidance and inspiration to deepen your understanding of the underlying why of Steiner/Waldorf education, supporting a developmentally aligned approach.

Spanning the early childhood to primary years, the course explores practical, creative, and philosophically rich modules that help bring Steiner education to life in your home.

Developed with working parents and educators in mind, the flexible hybrid format allows participants to complete modules sequentially or select them individually, progressing at a pace that suits their personal and professional commitments.

Module 1 begins 17 February 2026.

Modules may be completed sequentially (recommended) or selected in any order to suit your individual needs. Taken together, the modules provide a comprehensive overview of the Steiner/Waldorf approach to education from birth to age 14.

Personal discretion is encouraged; for example, although a grounding in the early years is highly beneficial for understanding the whole developmental picture, it may be of lower priority for those focused on older children.

For families educating high school–age students (14+), we recommend that parents and tutors enrol in the High School Teaching Foundation course.

The purpose of this course is to deepen understanding of both the why and the how of this educational approach, rather than to provide a step-by-step curriculum guide.

Practical and Artistic Components

We encourage and highly recommend that participants also attend the in-person Primary Education Seminars. These Seminars offer in-depth practical and creative learning through music, visual arts, speech and drama, and movement—essential elements of a full Steiner/Waldorf educational experience.

For those who live farther away, we recommend seeking a similar in-person offering in your local area.

Outcomes

Taken together, the modules offer a comprehensive overview of the Steiner/Waldorf approach to education from birth to age 14. They equip participants with foundational knowledge and the confidence to bring Steiner/Waldorf education into the home environment. The purpose of this course is to deepen understanding of both the why and the how of this educational approach, rather than to provide a step-by-step curriculum guide.

Several modules within this course also form part of the Primary Teaching Foundation (PTF) program. Completion of these modules will contribute toward the PTF training, should participants choose to continue their studies.

Why study at Sydney Rudolf Steiner College?
