Course Overview

Casual Students are invited to enrol in the full Seminar for Primary and High School, or in the following Individual Modules:

Projective Geometry

Projective Geometry: Projections, Shadows and Symmetry from the Cosmos

Projective Geometry is the perfect example of how the Waldorf Curriculum grows with the child. For Senior High School students it is a development of their primary engagement with ‘form drawing’. It involves high level thinking that is balanced by the creation of rigorous Projective Geometry constructions and artistic relationships to the world around us.

Delivered over two afternoons, participants will explore a series of Projective Geometry constructions based on Desargues’s ‘Shadow Theorem’. Beginning with observational activities involving projection and shadows and then, from this understanding, to the next level through drawing. The geometry construction process is profound and revelational and through it we learn to see the unseen structure of natural forms – the patterns that visibly express aspects of Nature’s open secret.

understanding of how colours arise in the environment and within ourselves.

Bothmer Gymnastics

Movement permeates all other senses and needs to be nurtured, especially as our culture moves us toward an ever more sedentary and passive existence. Bothmer Gym is especially beneficial to children and adults whose senses and nervous systems are over-stimulated, as it allows us to reconnect to the rhythmic system and will in the limbs.

By learning Bothmer Gymnastics we gain the capacity and discipline of active stillness, an essential state for quality listening, inner preparation and gathering one’s resources. Through this practice of bodily movements we can experience the creative, spiritual forces of space working upon the body.

Tutor: Louise Swanson

Session Times:

Session 1: Sunday 25 Sept 3pm – 4pm

Session 2: Wednesday 28 Sept 1.30 – 3pm

Session 3: Wednesday 28 Sept 3.30 – 5pm

Music in the Steiner School

Music is a rich, joyful and valuable experience and has a positive influence on many aspects of human development including emotional intelligence, cognitive abilities, physical coordination, health and wellbeing as well as social interaction. In this course participants will gain practical skills teaching music in the primary classes, utilising mainly the voice, recorder and percussion instruments. Discussion of Steiner’s philosophies of music education will be supported with practical examples of music to teach classes 1 through 6. Participants will develop recorder skills and learn how to impart this knowledge without any prior knowledge of musical notation or playing an instrument. There will be instruction on correct recorder technique including tone production, articulation and finger co-ordination. As singing is of central importance in Steiner education, this course will explore simple unison melodies for use in the early primary classes.

What our Students Say

Testimonial from student after attending the Autumn seminar:

“I recently attended the April teaching seminar at the Sydney Rudolf Steiner College and completed both the Music and Artistic Development courses. I was honestly impressed with the calibre of the teachers. These courses were very much hands-on and I came away with many new and exciting resources to take back to the classroom. I feel enriched and inspired. I learnt techniques that were fresh and exciting along with a new delivery approach for my students. Thank you for your dedication to give us such an enlivened experience”.
